Gov. Bruce Rauner: Democrats dislike the governor because he "stalemates" them, according to the Tribune.

"The Chicago Tribune editorial board officially endorsed Gov. Bruce Rauner for Illinois Governor because he stands up to Democrats, according to a recent editorial by the news organization.

“If (Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B.) Pritzker wins, he’ll empower the same Democratic leaders who have heaped enormous benefits on public employee unions and other pet constituencies; in return, the politicians reap the campaign money and muscle that keeps them in control," the editorial states. "Owing to the Democrats’ chronic overpromising, overspending, overborrowing and overtaxing, Illinois citizens, their children and grandchildren face vast public debts they may be unable to repay.

The Tribune noted that Democratic policies will lead to tax increases, which would exacerbate the state's outmigration issue.

J.B. Pritzker is the Democratic challenger for governor.

“And over the next four years, someone had better keep refusing these Democratic legislative leaders," the editorial states. "Because in Pritzker they see a malleable rookie politician who’ll give them what they haven’t reliably had: a governor’s signatures on tax increases, spending increases, debt increases.”

The editorial board argues that Democrats dislike Rauner because he "stalemates them" and "blocks their exclusive dominion over lawmaking," according to he article.

“Which is precisely why we endorse Bruce Rauner, and urge you to re-elect him governor of Illinois,” the Tribune sates.
