ADVOCATE TRINITY HOSPITAL: Chicago Cubs Anthony Rizzo teams up with 7 year old for a day to remember

Advocate Trinity Hospital issued the following announcement on Dec. 3.

The Higgins Family of Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood is experiencing a holiday season that they will likely never forget.

That’s because 7-year-old Jack Higgins, a pediatric cancer patient who undergoes treatment at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill. teamed up with Chicago Cubs star Anthony Rizzo to create a holiday card that is currently being sold at all Chicagoland Jewel-Osco stores.

The second-grader, along with his parents, grandparents and younger brother Sean, recently spent the afternoon with Rizzo to talk baseball and create the card design. The festive card features Jack’s artwork and signatures from both him and the Cubs first baseman. Advocate Children’s Hospital and Jewel-Osco partnered to make the day extra special for the family by providing limousine transportation, toys, Cubs jerseys for Jack and Sean, and a big welcome from Clark the Cub.

An invitation to hang out with Anthony Rizzo would be a dream come true for any Cubs fan, but for Jack, it was the opportunity of a lifetime.

In December 2015, Jack was diagnosed with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia just days after his fifth birthday. He has bravely undergone treatment for the past three years and will be finished in February of 2019.

The holiday card will be sold at all Chicagoland Jewel-Osco locations until December 31. 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation and Advocate Children’s Hospital. Both organizations support children and families fighting cancer and help raise funds for cancer research and treatment.
