alderman candidate Michele Smith returns $3,500 contribution from W. E. O'Neil Construction Co.

The campaign committee of alderman candidate Michele Smith, Friends of Michele Smith, returned a $3,500 contribution from W. E. O'Neil Construction Co. on Jan. 15, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Candidates sometimes refuse or return contributions because they do not want their campaign to be affiliated with the donor. W. E. O'Neil Construction Co. has not made any other contributions to Michele Smith in the past 12 months.
