Incumbent Alderman Michele Smith retained her 43rd Ward post on Tuesday night, bringing in 53.70 percent of the votes (6,961) to challenger’s Derek Lindblom’s 46.30 percent (6,001) with 45 of 46 precincts reporting, according to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

This will be Smith’s third term as alderman for the ward. She previously worked for the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Lindblom is vice president of 7wire Ventures and previously was chief of staff to the Mayor’s Economic Council. 

The 43rd Ward includes parts of Lincoln Park and Old Town.

Voter turnout was extremely light Tuesday with only 495,328 ballots cast overall among 1,592,658 registered voters, according to the election board.
