Incumbent Alderman Howard Brookins Jr. retained his 21st Ward post on Tuesday night with 53.16 percent of the votes (6,996) to challenger’s Marvin McNeil's 46.84 percent (6,165) with all 54 precincts reporting, according to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

Brookins, a partner at Brookins and Wilson Law Firm, has served as alderman for the ward since 2003. He and McNeil, a retired zoning code inspector for the City of Chicago, previously faced off for the same seat in 2015.

The 15th Ward includes parts of Auburn Gresham and Washington Heights.

Voter turnout was extremely light Tuesday with only 495,328 ballots cast overall among 1,592,658 registered voters, according to the election board.
