Former state university employee Furbeck paid in $12K to pension fund, could collect $214K in retirement

Former state university employee Trudi Furbeck, who retired in April 2019, saved $11,545 toward a pension over 4 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Furbeck would collect as much as $214,089, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Furbeck received $4,500 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Furbeck will have already received $13,909 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
