Former state university employee Lim paid in $18K to pension fund, could collect $575K in retirement

Former state university employee Lorena Lim, who retired in January 2019, saved $18,039 toward a pension over 6 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Lim would collect as much as $575,472, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Lim received $12,096 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Lim will have already received $24,555 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
