Former state university employee Bitoy paid in $49K to pension fund, could collect $925K in retirement

Former state university employee Fior Bitoy, who retired in May 2017, saved $49,010 toward a pension over 26 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bitoy would collect as much as $925,311, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Bitoy received $19,449 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Bitoy will have already received $60,114 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
