Former state university employee Dejesus paid in $86K to pension fund, could collect $935K in retirement

Former state university employee Paula Dejesus, who retired in September 2017, saved $85,697 toward a pension over 5 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Dejesus would collect as much as $934,993, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Dejesus received $19,652 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 5 years of retirement, Dejesus will have already received $104,335 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
