Former state university employee Stainton paid in $37K to pension fund, could collect $940K in retirement

Former state university employee Mary Stainton, who retired in August 2017, saved $36,835 toward a pension over 21 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Stainton would collect as much as $940,052, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Stainton received $19,759 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Stainton will have already received $40,111 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
