Former state university employee Aghaei Hervani paid in $53K to pension fund, could collect $822K in retirement

Former state university employee Aref Aghaei Hervani, who retired in June 2016, saved $53,204 toward a pension over 12 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Aghaei Hervani would collect as much as $822,120, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chicago City Wire.

The projection assumes Aghaei Hervani received $17,280 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Aghaei Hervani will have already received $53,410 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
