ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 40: Andrade Helps Pass Fair Tax Amendment, Lowers Tax Burden for Middle-Class Families

Lawyer

Illinois State House District 40 issued the following announcement on May 30.

State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, released the following statement after the passage of the Fair Tax amendment, which is a critical first step toward providing tax relief for the middle class. The Fair Tax will also raise billions in new revenue to help fund jobs programs, provide affordable health care for communities across Illinois and restore our education system:

“The passage of the Fair Tax amendment will bring tax relief for millions of Illinoisans and pay down the debt. For years, middle-class families have shouldered the burden of one of the most unfair tax systems in the country, paying as much as 13% percent of their income to state and local taxes. The wealthiest pay only half that amount. It’s time to end the era of regressive flat taxes that have let the super-rich get richer at the expense of Illinois’ middle class.

“This is not just a strong first step toward providing tax relief for a majority of hard-working Illinoisans, it will raise revenue so we can invest job training programs that create well-paying employment opportunities, better fund our school system and make health care more affordable for all Illinoisans, regardless of pre-existing conditions. The passage of the Fair Tax will help build a stronger Illinois and middle class for current and coming generations, and I am proud to help create that future.”
