Q1 2019 Recap: Parolees in Chicago convicted of homicide

There were 47 offenders convicted of homicide released on parole in Chicago during the first quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Chicago City Wire.

The data shows that 42 men and five women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for homicide, one is a veteran, and the median age is 41. The youngest parolee was a 22-year-old man sentenced in 2017, and the oldest was a 64-year-old man sentenced in 1999.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Miles Barnes. He was convicted of homicide in 1983 when he was 28 years old. He is now 63.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The table below shows the cities in Illinois with the most paroled offenders in Q1 2019 who were convicted of homicide.
