Q4 2018 Recap: Parolees in Cook County convicted of homicide

There were 69 offenders convicted of homicide released on parole in Cook County during the fourth quarter of 2018, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Chicago City Wire.

The data shows that 65 men and four women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for homicide, one was a veteran, and the median age was 41. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man sentenced in 2018, and the oldest was a 77-year-old man sentenced in 1978.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Michael Henderson. He was convicted in 1974 when he was 21 years old. He is now 66.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
