Illinois State House District 27 issued the following announcement on Sept. 6.

In an effort to help local residents find jobs and ensure a complete census count, State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, recently hosted Census Job Day in collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau, Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore and Alderman Howard Brookins.

“It is absolutely critical that we make sure that our community is counted accurately during the 2020 census,” said Slaughter. “There are too many resources and lives at stake in this upcoming census and we need to do our best to make sure that every position is filled, and the Census Bureau has the manpower necessary to fulfill its constitutional duties.”

Slaughter co-hosted the Census Job Day at the Carter G. Woodson Regional Library on Aug. 29. Representatives from the U.S. Census Bureau were available to explain job responsibilities to applicants and assist with the application process. The U.S. Census Bureau projects that it will need to hire 90,000 workers for census efforts in the Chicagoland area alone in the upcoming year. There are still many full-time and part-time positions available for jobseekers.

“I am so glad to see the many people who came out to find out how they could help accomplish the great task that is the census,” said Slaughter. “I’m grateful to be able to help the U.S. Census Bureau fill positions to help with the census while helping residents of our community find meaningful job opportunities.”
