ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 4: Ramirez Hosts Environment Town Hall

Meeting 08

Illinois State House District 4 issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.

To inform residents of the various pro-environment reforms that have been accomplished, what is left to come, and to provide an opportunity for the community to share their feedback and ask questions, state Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Chicago, recently held an Environment Town Hall at Wells High School.

“The town hall brought residents from all over the district for a rich and critical conversation on current legislation to protect our environment and ways we can partner to be effective advocates for protecting our water and air,” Ramirez said. “I look forward to hosting more events like this and sponsoring legislation that addresses environmental justice because our families deserve the stability of a safe, clean environment for generations to come.”

Ramirez’s event was held in conjunction with Sen. Omar Aquino, the Illinois Environmental Council, and other local environmental advocacy groups. Issues discussed included combatting lead in drinking water, open park spaces, incentivizing recycling, and improving public transit and active transport infrastructure.

During her first legislative session, Ramirez supported a number of measures to strengthen environmental protections. Among them, she helped to pass Senate Bill 9 which places stronger regulations on the waste disposal of coal power plants to prevent them from polluting the water supplies of the communities located in the vicinity. Ramirez is also supporting House Bill 3624, the Clean Energy Jobs Act, to transition the state to a green economy by creating high-wage jobs in the renewable energy sector.
