City of Wheaton Library Board met Jan. 20.

I. Call to Order
The Board of Trustees of the Wheaton Public Library held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 20, 2020, in the Library Board Room. Board President Christine Fenne called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Members present at roll call were: Christine Fenne, Alan Herbach, Bob Lyon, Bob McDonough, Joe McHaley, Laurie Metanchuk, Kathryn Staron and Vallari Talapatra. Absent: Simone Morton. Betsy Adamowski, Library Director and Lisa Christell-Sandri, Library Finance Manager and recording secretary for this meeting, were in attendance. Mrs. Fenne led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
II. Citizens to be Heard
There were no citizens to be heard.
III. Department Presentation – Jeanne Willwerth, Adult Services Librarian
Ms. Willwerth began by describing her responsibilities. Half of her time is spent at the Adult Reference Desk answering questions and ordering books on Philosophy and Self-Help. As the Library’s Business Specialist, she spends the other half of her time in the Business Resource Center (BRC) purchasing business books, putting together business displays, contributing to the monthly Wheaton Bank & Trust newsletter and planning business programs. She works with the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce and SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) who both partner with WPL in the BRC. She has recently started a monthly meet-up with a small group of business owners. She does a quarterly BRC orientation and provides one-on-one consultations. Ms. Willwerth then answered questions.

VI. Friends of the Library Report – Mrs. Adamowski
There was no report.
VII. Library Director’s Report for December 2019
Mrs. Adamowski has been spending time working on the Mad Fore Plaid Golf Event. She noted that almost all areas of the Library will be utilized. She stated that the donor wall should be up by then. During the event there will be 15 items up for a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, mini putt poker, bulls-eye chipping and the longest putt along with the 18 holes for the mini golf. There will be a bar on each floor, appetizers and a DJ. She said that the 200 tickets are almost sold out. On February 7 the library staff will have an in-service day. The Library will be closed as well as Café on the Park, though the café will provide the snacks and lunch for the staff. Mrs. Adamowski told the Board that the Library will again have a display for LGBTQ Month (June) which was very popular last year. The Director also brought up fee cards for Wheaton College students.

X. Board Member Comments (Round the Table)
Mr. McDonough noted that Dr. Lawrence DuBose, one of our greatest donors, had passed away. Mrs. Adamowski said that Dr. DuBose will be getting a gold butterfly on the donor wall. Mr. Lyon appreciated a book recommendation that a material handler gave him. Mrs. Fenne reminded the members about the ILA (Illinois Library Association) Legislative Meet-Up on February 2 in Oak Brook. ILA’s lobbyist will be there highlighting current legislation that affects libraries.
XIII. Adjournment
There being no further business of the Wheaton Public Library Board of Trustees, Mrs. Fenne moved and Mr. McDonough seconded that the meeting be adjourned. A voice vote was taken and the motion for adjournment carried at 7:54 p.m.
