Illinois State House District 20 issued the following announcement on March 24.
State Representative Brad Stephens (R-Chicago) hosted a telephone town hall with local subject matter experts Dr. John Allegretti and Dr. Matthew Jordan to discuss the Covid-19 pandemic with the community.
“I wanted to host this Tele-TownHall to be sure our residents are informed and could have their concerns addressed in these trying times,” said Stephens. “Thank you to Doctors Allegretti and Jordan for giving up some of their invaluable time and providing a direct line of communication for our community. We owe them, and all our healthcare professionals an extra debt of gratitude for their sacrifice in light of this virus.”
Dr. Allegretti specializes in emergency medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and Dr. Jordan specializes in emergency medicine at Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. The doctors spoke about what we can all do to slow the spread of the virus, what to do if you are feeling unwell, and provided clarity on misinformation and rumors. Both Allegretti and Jordan discussed the importance of “social distancing,” and how the practice will help both flatten and bend the curve. Representative Stephens spoke about the various resources available for those most impacted by the pandemic as well as how we can come together as a community and help those in need.
During the call, one resident from a vulnerable population was concerned about access to food and social distancing of delivery services. Stephens explained, “I was so proud of our community, because several town hall attendees independently reached out to our office to ask how they could help her and the community at large. It shows how united our community is.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with each one of you during this crisis. Please stay safe, stay informed, and check in on vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors,” Stephens concluded. “We will get through this together.”
