ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 27: Slaughters Cancels March Events Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Coronavirus update920

Illinois State House District 27 issued the following announcement on March 26.

State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, has cancelled his schedule of events for March, which included seminars on crime prevention and expungement, in an effort comply with the latest recommendations from public health organizations concerning Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“While I am saddened to have to postpone several informative events, I am committed to doing all that I can to help our health care professionals contain and fight this virus,” said Slaughter. “I will work hard to make sure that these much-needed events will be rescheduled as soon as possible.”

Slaughter’s postponed March events consisted of an expungement seminar on March 20 and a crime prevention seminar on March 20, both of which were scheduled to take place at his district office in Chicago. Slaughter’s college financial aid and admissions panel scheduled for March 28 at the Evergreen Park Library has also been postponed. Slaughter cancelled these events to follow the guidelines from leading public health organizations, which discourage gatherings of 10 or more people. Slaughter plans to reschedule these in the coming months.

“Although the COVID-19 coronavirus is presenting us with unique challenges, I have faith in the people of Illinois and our ability to get through this crisis,” said Slaughter. “I look forward to continuing to work with our governor, state agencies, elected officials and community members to combat COVID-19 and keep our communities safe.”
