Following the Illinois General Assembly's passage of a budget prioritizing funding public education and health services, Assistant Majority Leader Iris Y. Martinez (D-Chicago) released the following statement:
Regardless of the financial downfalls caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our state remains committed to our students and residents. I was proud to negotiate and vote for a budget that makes responsible decisions based on our economic reality, while maintaining ample funds for P-12 public schools and the Department of Human Services to help our state's most vulnerable population. ”
