Republican 13th Ward Committeeman David Krupa blasted Senator Tammy Duckworth for politicizing Pres. Donald Trump’s offer to help cities gain control of looters and rioters with military troops.
“Democratic politicians like Tammy Duckworth and Mayor Lightfoot have already lost control of Chicago,” Krupa told the Chicago City Wire. “It would be due to President Trump sending military troops that they'd be able to regain control and they don't want him to come in and be the hero, which he's not even trying to be the hero. Pres. Trump is just trying to do his job.”
Krupa is responding to a June 3, 2020 Tweet on Twitter by Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth stating, “Our military is one of the most diverse institutions in this country. And for Donald Trump to pervert it, politicize it and use it against fellow Americans exercising their constitutional rights sickens me to the core.”
Based on her tweet, Krupa said Sen. Duckworth doesn't understand the role of military troops if they were deployed to Chicago.
"The military is used to enforce curfews, to stop looting and rioting in urban areas," Krupa said in an interview. "The military isn't there to break up people protesting. They would be there to enforce the law so exercising the first amendment rights of protesters is not going to be affected by the military."
In a video embedded within the tweet, Duckworth went on to label Pres. Trump, “a draft-dodging wannabe tin-pot dictator," and ended with, “I am sickened to the core by this man.”
Krupa said it is unfortunate that Duckworth and other Democratic politicians cannot appreciate that Pres. Trump is trying to save America.
“Our court system needs to get back up and running ASAP and I don't see why it wouldn't," he said. "Mayor Lightfoot says we're moving into Phase 3 of reopening the economy so apparently COVID-19 is not a problem anymore. Let's get these courts back open and start enforcing the rule of law."
Chicago erupted into “No Justice No Peace” protests led by Black Lives Matter (BLM), an international human rights organization that demanded the arrest of Derek Chauvin, the police officer who pinned an unarmed Floyd to the ground with his knee, killing him on May 25, 2020.
Chauvin was finally arrested and charged with murder on the third day of rallies, some of which have turned into episodes of looting that Trump and other government officials have said were instigated by Antifa, which is a far-left, antifascist activist network who principally believe that more aggressive resistance to the Nazi Party in pre-World War II Germany would have kept Adolph Hitler from coming into power, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
On June 1, it was reported in Business Insider that the extreme right-wing group, Identity Evropa, posed as Antifa and BLM on Twitter and called for violence and looting in white neighborhoods.
“There are people questioning Pres. Trump’s constitutional authority to send military troops but, of course, there's always martial law should a situation like this ever arise again," Krupa said. "I don't think this is the last time we will see something like this happen."
Sen. Duckworth is a Democratic member of the U.S. Senate, representing the 8th Congressional District of Illinois who was first elected to the Senate in 2016, according to BallotPedia, and is an Iraq War veteran, having served in the reserve forces and retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Duckworth lost both legs during combat and continued to serve in the National Guard despite her injuries.
