About 29 percent of the 2,555 degrees and certificates handed out by the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2017-18 were to students in engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the private not-for-profit institution in Chicago conferred 412 master's degrees and 284 bachelor's degrees in engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a master's degree in computer science. Data shows the school gave out 335 master's degrees in computer science, followed by 248 master's degrees in information technology and 234 doctor's degrees in law.

The institute enrolled 6,753 students for 2017-18, including 3,026 in undergraduate programs and 3,727 in graduate programs.
