ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 26: Buckner Highlights Utility Assistance Programs

Meeting 08

Illinois State House District 26 issued the following announcement on Aug.18.

As economic obstacles still face many families and residents, state Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is highlighting utility relief programs made available in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Unfortunately, as the pandemic continues to be prevalent in our communities, so are the economic burdens that are being placed upon residents,” said Buckner. “The assistance options made available will allow residents to create payment plans to make their bills more manageable.”

Buckner is encouraging residents who are experiencing financial hardship to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Eligible residents may enroll in a Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP). Through the PIPP, residents would pay a percentage of their monthly income, and in turn they will receive a monthly benefit toward their bill and possibly additional reductions on their total owed amount for on-time payments.

“Right now more than ever we have to continue to provide residents with adequate assistance to get through these difficult times,” said Buckner. “As we continue in our fight to defeat the virus, I strongly suggest that those in need of relief take advantage of programs such as the LIHEAP and PIPP.
