ILLINOIS STATE SENATE DISTRICT 20: Hiring for Chief Diversity Officer

Illinois State Senate District 20 issued the following announcement on Aug. 28.

The Office of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is seeking to hire a Chief Diversity Officer. The Chief Diversity Officer will provide direction, guidance, and support to the Governor’s Office and all state agencies on strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout Illinois government, including in the provision of constituent services and programming.

The Chief Diversity Officer will:

• Develop and support the implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the

Governor’s Office

• Oversee, coordinate, and provide diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings for the Governor’s

Office and state agencies

• Report directly to the Chief of Staff

• Work with the Chief Operating Officer and agency directors on implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion plans throughout state agencies

• Identify new programming and initiatives to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout state government

• Identify and support implementation of best practices to make state agencies more accessible to diverse constituents

• Collaborate with Governor’s Office and state agencies’ outreach teams to promote accessible and culturally competent outreach to diverse constituent groups

• Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Ethics Officer on issues relating to discrimination and sexual harassment

• Support strategic collaboration between agencies, the Governor’s Office, the office of the

Lieutenant Governor, and Constitutional offices in areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion

• Stay informed regarding research and best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion

• Other duties as appropriate

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least 5 years’ experience as a Chief Diversity Officer or similar position leading and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in a complex organization

• A master’s degree or higher in human resource management, public administration, organizational development/organizational effectiveness, or a related field or at least 5 years’ experience in one of those areas

• At least 3 years’ experience in government Excellent organizational abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

• Ability to work independently as well as within a team

• Experience in relationship-building across all organizational levels, community building,

networking and deploying effective programs that foster diversity and inclusion

• Experience in researching and developing analytics and performance metrics to report progress

• Experience in addressing issues of harassment and discrimination in the workplace
