Northwest Side GOP Club President Ammie Kessem is still basking in the glow of being on the White House grounds to hear President Donald Trump’s Republican National Convention speech.

“It was a memorable night,” Kessem told Chicago City Wire. “The president’s speech hit every single topic and there were people handing out the MAGA hats and Trump face masks. We could even walk right up to the stage to take selfies.”

Kessem, a sergeant with the Chicago Police Department, was among the first responders who were part of the invited crowd.

“The president requested the presence of police officers who have been serving on the front lines during these riots and I was asked to attend,” she said, adding that she was accompanied by Deputy Committeeman David DiSanti, a Trump Republican National Convention Delegate.

Kessem added she is a delegate at-large and was originally slated to attend the RNC in Charlotte, North Carolina before it was canceled due to the coronavirus.

As for her night to remember, Kessem said she was tabbed by Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 President John Catanzara after he was invited.

“He said I deserved it since I am one of the few people he knows who isn’t afraid to put an R after my name,” Kessem said.

Kessem recently took to Facebook where she vowed to keep close watch over all the unrest now sweeping the country, including in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

“Obviously, I will be paying close attention to what occurred and what led up to it, but here’s the bottom line: When you are stopped by police you do not have the freedom to do whatever you want at that moment,” she posted. “If you feel you are being unjustly stopped, there are remedies for that down the road, but you must comply with the direct police orders. Period.”
