City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission Met August 18

City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission met Aug. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order

President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.. Those present: Mike Bock, Dee Hicks, Laurie Swanson Oberhelman, Tony Asta. Absent: Sara Antas, Kathy Young.

II. Agenda Items:

Tony moved and Mike Bock seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion carried

Agenda Item

Mike Bock moved and Laurie seconded the approval of Minutes from July 28, 2020. Motion carried.

Future projects. Possible events: Fire plug painting. “Love Locks” on chain link fence. “Find the Art Bear”. Frames for pictures at cultural spots in Wheaton. Tree wraps. We will discuss the logistics of these projects at future meeting.

Agenda Item:

Fire Plug painting. Mike checked with Sharon and was advised to talk with Fire Department and public works for directions on how to proceed. It was suggested that someone talk to Lombard Fire Department where the project had been done several years ago. Questions included: what kind of paint must be used. How many plugs and where would they be located. More directions are needed.

New commissioner. Mike has received two applicants and will set up appointments for interview. It was suggested that we interview at next scheduled meeting, however it is felt that all members be present. Mike will check with Sharon for logistics using virtual meeting. Candidates are: David Duve and Gerald Gallager.

Tony was reminded to send an invoice on letterhead for any donations from the Commission

Music in the Park was cancelled. There will be future discussion about this event including the renaming.

Laurie Swanson Oberhelman followed up with the Chamber and DWA regarding Covid 19 mask design art project for the fall. The Chamber had no interest, but the DWA proposed a window painting project and needed our help. Laurie will inquire what DWA needs and how we can assist. DWA needs to outline the project.i.e. how many windows, what to present to the artists, is there a theme, time schedule. The Covid project didn’t seem to take precedence

Tony Asta moved and Laurie Swanson Oberhelman seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 6:35.
