City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission met Sept. 8.
Here is the minutes provided by the commission:
I. Call to Order
President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 5:04 p.m.. Those present: Mike Bock, Dee Hicks, Laurie Swanson Oberhelman, Tony Asta, Sara Antas, and Kathy Young.
II. Agenda Items:
Mike Bock moved and Sara Antas seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion carried
III. Agenda Item
Mike Bock moved and Laurie Swanson Oberhelman seconded the approval of Minutes from August 26 , 2020. Motion carried.
IV. Agenda Item
Window Painting: Mike Bock talked with Sharon and was advised that no waivers are necessary for paint windows. Lauri Swanson Oberhelman met with Ellie and are finalizing guideline list which follows :
Guidelines: Family Friendly, no electrical, approval of art
No political, religious or sexual themes
Painting is restricted from September 20 to September 30 and will remain until October 31.
Drop cloths are required to keep sidewalk clean
November is National Arts and Humanities Month
Wheaton: Love Where you Live (suggested theme)
Commission will find at least 28 artists to participate. Each artist will received $250 which includes all materials to complete project. Adult artists will be contacted before high schools and/or junior highs.
DWA will handle all marketing and contacts to retailers
DWA will make payments to artists. Commission will supply names of artists and contact information to DWA. Artists will be allowed to add personal information on painting not to exceed 5” x 3”
Motion made Laurie Swanson and seconded by Mike Bock to support the Wheaton: Love where you live window painting project in conjunction with the Downtown Wheaton Association. Motion carried
Adjournment: Laurie Swanson moved and Sarah Antes seconded. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 5:41 p.m.
