Lighfoot caught in lie: Census Cowboy 'not a paid position'

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot apparently lied to reporters about whether the man known as the “Census Cowboy” was paid for his role.

In comments in a July 14 press conference, Lightfoot said Chicago was not paying “Dreadhead Cowboy” Adam Hollingsworth for his work as the “Census Cowboy.”

“It is not a paid position,” Lighfoot said in video taken at the event. “Yes. He has absolutely already started his work. He is going to be traveling to those communities that have the overall lowest, the 10 lowest response rates, and we want to just do everything we can to emphasize to folks the importance of filling out this census.”

Lighfoot’s past statements resurfaced as Chicago City Wire revealed that Hollingsworth has a long arrest record and was paid $1,000 per day for appearances, including a horseback ride for Lightfoot with the “Census Cowboy.”

Hollingsworth told Chicago City Wire he was paid for the role. He said the contract was sent by email and he had his ex-girlfriend sign his name on it.

“I don’t sign things,” he said.

The day on which Lightfoot said Hollingsworth was not being paid, July 14, is included in the dates of the contract.

“You will be out riding for five days total, which will be determined by the census team and weather permitting,” the contract reads. “Days determined are July 13 through July 21, 2020.”

Since 2014, Holingsworth has been arrested nine times, according to Chicago Police records

Currently, he is facing domestic battery charges in Will County.

Hollingsworth told Chicago City Wire he never gave Mayor Lightfoot a ride on his horse.
