Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health Mary Allison Arwady is telling Chicagoans to wear masks in their homes if they intend to have houseguests.

“If you have people in, please, masks are crucial,” Arwady said at a press conference.

Arwady, 44, is single and lives in Chicago's Lincoln Park Neighborhood. Arwady, who is a practicing pediatrician, made other forceful comments, ordering Chicagoans to not engage with one another.

“I do not want you having anyone into your home who is not essential for being there,” she said. “They (must) live (there) or they are providing essential service like home health care, education or childcare.”

The ability of masks to stop the virus spread has been called into question.

In May, the CDC released a report showing that all but one type of mask failed tests simulating coughing or sneezing. Another recent study found masks are largely ineffective.

“I hope my sons are essential,” WIND-AM’s The Morning Answer co-host Amy Jacobson quipped on Twitter.
