Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot got backlash after admitting to getting a haircut despite launching a “Stay Home Save Lives” campaign featuring herself to promote the stay-at-home executive order.

The social media campaign featured Lightfoot in 12 videos showing different scenarios in which she urges people to “stay home, save lives.”

The “voice of reason” segment had Lightfoot talking to a friend on the phone reminding “Debbie, getting your roots done is not essential! Your dog doesn’t need to see its friends. You can work on your jump shot inside.”

When asked about the haircut, Lightfoot said, “The woman who cut my hair had a mask and gloves on so we are, I am practicing what I’m preaching,” the Chicago Tribune reported.

“I’m the public face of this city,” Lightfoot responded when asked about the campaign. “I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye. “I’m a person who, I take my personal hygiene very seriously. As I said, I felt like I needed to have a haircut. I’m not able to do that myself, so I got a haircut. You want to talk more about that?”

Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa slammed the mayor’s explanation.

“Really? She is under no obligation to look good on national TV, he wrote on Twitter. “She is under no obligation to book national interviews. But she is under an obligation to follow and promote social distancing in order to save lives. This is a bad example for our city.”
