Democratic Ald. Raymond Lopez says the administration in Chicago is treating police officers like children.

“Our city is under siege by teens with 9mm’s carjacking everyone and THIS is the policy?” Lopez tweeted. “This administration treats officers like kindergartners collecting stars for a class pizza party. Wake up & let the police do the job we hired & trained them to perform! #Enough(.)"

Lopez shared a screenshot of a policy involving tact teams sent by Chicago Police Department Bureau of Patrol-Area Four Deputy Chief Ernest Cato III.

“District Tact Teams community engagements can bring some security to motorist during this crisis of vehicular hijacking, by simply pumping gas for seniors,” the policy states. “Each district should assign two tact cars to a gas station for 30min to one hour and pump gas for senior citizens. Operation Safe Pump in effect. Obtain a PCI for each encounter.”

Several Twitter users agreed with Lopez, replying to his tweet with the same sentiments.

"Well I can definitely tell you that you need a new mayor and definitely a DA that wants to do her job. What else you gonna do in a catch and release situation,” one user replied.

Another said the policy wasn’t going to help.

“Is pumping senior's gas going to stop carjacking, they will move to othet (sic) locations to find their targets…” the user replied.

Another user said those in power needed to fix the situation quickly.

“Someone in power needs to get serious about these carjackings,” the user said. “Regular folks are not going to take much more.”
