Former longtime Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan called for his successor, Edward Guerra Kodatt, to step down after less than a week in the position.

“After learning of alleged questionable conduct by Mr. Kodatt, it was suggested that he resign as state representative for the 22nd District. We are committed to a zero-tolerance policy in the workplace,” Madigan and Ald. Marty Quinn (13th) said in a joint statement, POLITICO reported.

No conduct was specified that the former infrastructure manager for the 13th Ward had allegedly done to stain his records.

In his previous role he was “supervising a $1 million budget and overseeing improvement projects such as street repairs and lighting,” the publication reported.

Before he took his oath, Kodatt of Garfield Ridge, told Playbook he was excited “to lead by example.”

“Well, I never imagined having such big shoes to fill. I’ve known for most of my life that I wanted to dedicate my life to public service,” he also said.

Before Kodatt was chosen, Madigan said he hoped that his successor would take the same approach as he had, representing ordinary people on the Southwest side.

Quinn added that Kodatt, “had a front-row seat on what the needs are of constituents.”
