The fate of the James R. Thompson Center remains cloaked in intrigue.
With state workers set to begin moving into a new $73.25 million West Loop home as soon as April, the mystery only deepens.
Department of Central Management Services spokeswoman Marjani Williams said authorities plan to soon commence advertising for offers with an eye toward a potential sale over the next two years.
Williams insists the state “is not promoting demolition of the building,” but some are certain it will only be preserved if it is cost effective.
The iconic structure has recently been placed on the state’s “most endangered” list by Landmarks Illinois.
