Ammie Kessem, Chicago’s 41st Ward Republican Committeeperson, said the recent arrest and announced prosecution of five in DuPage County for election fraud is deserving of attention.
“The United State’s electoral process and upholding its integrity, is of the utmost importance and therefore should be an extreme priority throughout our Nation no matter how small of an effect it may have on the outcome of any one election or what party affiliation it may affect,” Kessem told Chicago City Wire.
Kessem’s comments come as DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin is cracking down on those who allegedly cast votes on behalf of the deceased.
“Obviously the State’s attorney had enough evidence and probably cause to charge these individuals and hopefully it will send a clear message to everyone that this type of fraud is not going to be tolerated," Kessem said.
Kessem, a veteran member of the Chicago Police Department, said she takes the law seriously.
“Many presidents past have echoed the words ‘We are a Nation of laws.’ Having spent 22 years dedicating my life to enforcing these laws and upholding our Constitution, I have a profound respect for those sentiments,” Kessem said.
Berlin echoed her sentiment in press release announcing the prosecutions.
“The very foundation of our country is built upon fair and free elections,” Berlin said. “Elections are a sacred duty and while the five defendants charged today represent an infinitesimal percentage of the 491,067 votes cast in the 2020 general election, it is important that anyone suspected of attempting to interfere in any way in the election process be investigated and charged where appropriate."
