The 2020 U.S. Census data reported that the Prairie State decreased in population for the first time in 200 years. Illinois will lose one seat in Congress as a result.

On Chicago's Morning Answer, Ted Dabrowski said the population loss can be blamed on horrible policies, repeated bankruptcy and the stripping away of freedoms.

"People are voting with their feet," Dabrowski said. "They're telling the rest of America 'this is what we want.'"

States that gained congressional seats include Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, Montana and Oregon — places where Dabrowski says the government respects people and respects businesses.

According to Illinois Policy, the state's net loss from 2010 to 2020 was 18,124, most of whom are millennials looking for better job opportunities, better housing or escaping poor public policy and high taxes.

The policy organization reported that almost half of all Illinois residents have thought about moving out of state at some point.

Other states to lose representatives include Michigan, California, New York, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The representation of Chicago's collar counties in the state Senate and House will likely increase relative to the state's fluctuating population, while the representation of downstate Illinois is expected to decrease.
