The wealthiest man in Illinois is making big money-talkin' claims to ensure that J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) isn't re-elected as the governor of the state.
In a recent interview, Chicago-based billionaire and owner of Citadel Securities Ken Griffin told journalist Andrew Sorkin that he is willing to do what it takes to back whoever runs against Pritzker.
"I'm going to make sure that if he runs again that I am all in to support the candidate who will beat him," Griffin said in the YouTube video. "He doesn't deserve to be the governor of our state."
Griffin also runs Citadel, a leading hedge fund, according to Fox Business.
Sorkin asked Griffin about safety in Chicago and if Griffin was seriously considering leaving the city. The billionaire replied that he "absolutely" is willing to leave, and brought up recent incidents of violence, like that of the 24-year-old man who was killed in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
"I brought this issue up in Chicago and do you know what the response from my governor was? He called me a liar," Griffin said in the interview. "That's what my governor did. He didn't say I'm going to take this problem on."
"I'm going to make our streets safe again. I'm going to make sure every child in Chicago whether they're white, black, or brown is safe. He called me a liar. It's all about politics for him. It's not about the people."
Sorkin kept pressing Griffin about whether or not he's staying in Chicago, asking a second time if he was going to stay or not.
"That comes down to whether or not we're willing to embrace the policies in Chicago that we need for people to be safe and secure," Griffin said in the interview.
According to Fox Business, Griffin didn't mention which candidate he would support but there are currently four Republican candidates campaigning for the opportunity to run against Pritzker.
Fox Business reports that Griffin is worth $21 billion.
