The COVID-19 pandemic has brought economic challenges, but the entrepreneurial spirit continues to thrive in the Black community. The panel features Black entrepreneurs who are reviving our economy through business expansion. Also, learn about resources and tools available for business owners and entrepreneurs.

They attend numerous markets throughout the city from May-October and would love to have you join their team whether you are a tofu aficionado, foodie, or just a lover of all things Chicago. From Caleb Jennings for One Tail At A Time
I'm an Associate Board member for One Tail at a Time, a 501(c)3 animal rescue located in Chicago. Our rescue is committed to ending pet homelessness by making pet ownership joyful and accessible for all. Besides rescue and adoption, we've also started a Pet Mutual Aid group in 2021 to provide assistance to those who need it and keep families together. To help raise the funds we need to save lives, we are planning our annual gala, Houndstooth Ball in March, and we're reaching out for donation items that we can use for raffle and silent auction. Would you be able to donate something to help raise funds for the animals? With the help of our generous donors, we aim to rescue more than 2,000 dogs, cats and rabbits in 2022 !I totally understand if not, but I know that anything from your businesses would be a hit in our silent auction. Also, if you know of any other businesses that may want to donate, please pass it along! Thank you!
Harmony House For Cats Is Participating in "The Betty White Challenge"

Applications for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) CityArts Program Grant are now open!
The goal of DCASE’s CityArts Program is to encourage the attainment of artistic excellence and financial stability, and to incentivize innovation related to citywide priorities. This year’s program will include opportunities to apply for general operating grants across all artistic disciplines, as well as special project grants to support Chicago's dance community. Chicago Recovery Plan launches citywide grant application for entrepreneurs. Community development grants up to $5 million each are available through the Chicago Recovery Plan’s ambitious strategy for equitable economic recovery and support for thriving and safe communities. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with the next deadline coming on Thursday, March 10.
BACP announced the launch of the new Chicago Business Center (CBC) Program. Through this new initiative, eight regional Chicago Business Centers have begun operating as hubs to provide business licensing assistance and other resources for small businesses in communities throughout the City. The eight Centers are open for virtual consultations with entrepreneurs today. visit Chicago.gov/CBC for more information.
As of January 3, the Chicago Vaccine Requirement requires any individual 5 years of age or older will be required to show proof that they are full vaccinated against COVID-19 to dine indoors, visit gyms, or enjoy entertainment venues where food or drink are being served. Patrons 16 years of age or older will also need to provide identification that matches their vaccination record.
The vaccine requirement does not include do not include houses of worship, pre-K-12 schools, child care programs, locations in O’Hare International Airport or Midway International Airport, locations in residential or office buildings the use of which is limited to residents, owners, or tenants of that building, or to food service establishments providing only charitable food services, such as soup kitchens. View Public Health Order 2021-2 for individuals exempted from the order.
Under Public Health Order 2021-2, establishments are required to:
- Develop and keep a written record describing the protocol for implementing and enforcing the vaccine mandate.
- Prominently post signage at each publicly accessible entrance to the covered location and at least one location inside the covered location that is conspicuously visible, informing patrons of the vaccination requirement.

Chicago-based chambers of commerce and business support organizations, often referred to as Neighborhood Business Development Centers (NBDC), assist in the development of small businesses in Chicago, serve as liaison between local businesses and the City of Chicago, and provide neighborhood business development services. They have have a strong neighborhood network and coordinate efforts with local aldermen, the City, and other community partners. They can help start-up entrepreneurs and existing business owners. SBA and Business Forward Announce Launch of the “Small Business Digital Alliance”
Today, the SBA and Business Forward, Inc., a non-profit organization working with small business leaders in support of policies promoting America’s economic competitiveness, announced the launch of the Small Business Digital Alliance. A joint public-private co-sponsorship, the SBDA will connect small businesses with critical tech resources to start and expand their e-commerce business to scale for success. The new initiative will also feature a series of free briefings and training to help small businesses access and utilize these digital tools to reach new markets, find diverse talent, improve operations, and raise capital.

Avondale Neighborhood Plan
The Avondale Neighborhood Association (ANA) is working with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and the City of Chicago Department of Planning to develop a neighborhood plan that will represent a vision for the future of the community. While the community of Avondale attracts new development, it important to consider a vision that would reflect what development is desired.

Free Tax Prep Help
The City of Chicago is committed to ensuring that hardworking Chicagoans can access free tax services to file their returns and claim their tax refunds. The City of Chicago works with its nonprofit partner, Ladder Up, to offer free tax help throughout the tax season and at various points in the off-season.
Ladder Up is excited to open 13 tax sites throughout the Chicagoland area and is offering in-person and drop-off services to clients for the 2022 tax season.
