21,399 City of Chicago residents in their 70s test positive for COVID-19

As of Feb. 28, there have been 21,399 City of Chicago residents in their 70s who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to numbers being reported to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

There have been 460,944 residents in their 70s in the county who had been tested, meaning that 4.6 percent of those tested have the coronavirus. Through Feb. 28, there have been 558,048 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 7,230 deaths from the coronavirus in City of Chicago.

Illinois was home to some of the first reported COVID-19 cases in the US. It has suffered numerous waves of the pandemic, which peaked in the fall of 2020. As the Midwestern hub of the US, Illinois businesses suffered greatly, including layoffs at two major airlines based in the state.
