Rosemont Elementary School District 78 Board of Education met Nov. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

President Stephens called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

ROLL CALL

President Stephens asked for a roll call.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Wilson, Monaco, Muszynski, Balogh, Price, Vice President Bailey, and President Stephens

MEMBERS ABSENT: None

RECOGNITION OF VISITORS

At this time President Stephens welcomed the visitors and asked if there were any questions or comments. There were no questions or comments at this time.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

There was a motion made by Member Price, seconded by Vice President Bailey to go into Executive Session at 5:32 p.m. to discuss the Superintendent search. The regular Board Meeting resumed at 6:04 p.m.

ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA

There were no Additions to the Agenda.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

There was a motion made by Vice President Bailey, seconded by Member Wilson, to approve consent agenda items 5.1 thru 5.2

5.1 Approval of the Minutes from the Regular Board Meeting held on October 12, 2021.

5.2 Approval of the Treasurer’s Report for October 31, 2021.

ADMINISTRATOR’S UPDATE

Principal Kovalcik reported on the following events:

• Picture retake day took place on October 13th.

• Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences were held on October 21st and 22nd. After next week, we will have had 100% participation.

• First quarter report cards were distributed at the Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences.

• The 7th and 8th graders attended White Pines on October 25th through October 27th.

• Halloween festivities took place on 10/29. Students took part in activities in their classrooms. Due to the weather, there was no Halloween parade.

• The Rosemont Public Safety Department talked to students about safety on Halloween on October 29th.

• Flu shots were provided to staff who wanted one.

ADMINISTRATOR’S UPDATE (cont.)

• Since the beginning of the year, we have had two fire drills and a Code Red drill.

• LAFF was held on October 27th. Twenty-one families and about 35 students attended the event.

• Red Ribbon Week took place the week of October 25th through October 29th. There was a different theme each day. Red Ribbon Week promotes a healthy lifestyle and making good choices.

• Principal Kovalcik thanked the Board for allowing her to attend the 2021 Education Leaders Annual Conference – Illinois Principal Association.

• Mid-quarter will be on November 15th.

• The 8th graders unloaded trees the morning of October 5th. They were treated to breakfast at school after the event.

• Cultural Event activities are taking place the week of October 8th. Thank you to Ms. Allen and Mrs. O’Donnell for putting this eventful week together.

Ms. Allen then spoke to the Board and visitors about all the events taking place this week – Italian lessons with Sra. Lupo, Bocce Ball, Storytelling and even a virtual real time tour of Italy from a gondola. The Benefit Club will also be sponsoring a pasta lunch on November 12th.

Superintendent Anderson spoke about his conversation with other Superintendents regarding spectators at winter sporting events. Parents/Guardians, siblings, and cheerleaders will not be allowed to attend away games. This will allow the number of people gathering at the game to remain low. We are currently looking into a camera system that will allow spectators to watch games remotely.

Special Education Report

Superintendent Anderson stated that it is now required that interpreters be trained for IEP meetings. Two staff members will be attending training at LASEC on October 9th.

Legislation Report

Superintendent Anderson spoke about House Bill 2778 that was passed by both legislative chambers and is heading to the Governor’s desk. This School Employee Benefit and Wage Protection Bill requires districts to provide COVID administrative days to employees to use for COVID-related absences, and provide hourly employees to receive full pay if the school needs to close.

Voters’ League Assignment

President Stephens indicated that he would do the Voters’ League Assignment with the usual back up.

There was a motion made by Member Muszynski, seconded by Member Balogh, to approve the List of Disbursements for the month of October 2021 (reviewed by Member Monaco).

Felipe Adame

There was a motion made by Vice President Bailey, seconded by Member Wilson, to approve hiring Felipe Adame for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year as a Night Custodian/Bus Driver for an annual salary of $27,680.00.
