DePaul's Artemiy Yalovenko turned in a one-under round of 71 to lead the DePaul golf team on the first day of the BIG EAST Championship present by JEEP. Yalovenko is tied for ninth heading into Tuesday's second round at Callaway Resort and Gardens.
Yalovenko carded his fourth round under par this season and is among three players tied for ninth following first-round scores of 71 (-1). He played even over the front nine before recording three birdies en route to a one-under back nine. Overall, 11 players posted scores under par led by first-round leader Max Lyons of Marquette with a score of 64 (-8).
Noah Kolar and Nik Gatmaytan followed Yalovenko and are in a group in 20th place. The duo each recorded a 73 (+1) in the opening circuit of Callaway Gardens. Conor Glennon and Grant Boyson rounded out play for the Blue Demons with rounds of 79 (+7). The scores put them in a tie for 46th place.
Marquette holds the top spot on the team leaderboard with a score of 281 (-7). DePaul is tied for eighth with Villanova at 296 (+8), but only have three shots between the Blue Demons and sixth-place Xavier.
