George Kemper is looking to unseat incumbent Democrat Margaret Croke in the 12th House District on Chicago’s North Side.

He thanked his supporters on Facebook and was proud to announce that he is the GOP nominee for the Illinois House of Representative District 12.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign so far! Kemper said. The work is far from over but together we can improve our neighborhoods, city, and state. Please reach out or check out our website if you would like to help improve Illinois in November! #kemperforillinois.”

Kemper said it has been a humbling experience to win the primary and he is thrilled to work for Illinoisans. He asked the public to reach out with any issues that the people would like to discuss "or how to contribute towards a victory in November."

"With that said, the work starts now," Kemper stated. "I am excited to do all I can to improve Illinois and make it a state that we all are proud to call home."

While he believes that peoples' voices should be heard, Kemper condemned the anti-Catholic cartoon on Facebook by State Sen. Sara Feigenholtz. The cartoon put out in the wake of the Dobbs Decision, illustrates a pope pointing a pistol at the back of the head of a pregnant statue of Liberty.  Kemper decried it as “offensive and disturbing,” and called on Croke to do the same.

“I stand with anyone who condemns its hateful message and call upon Ms. Croke to do the same," he said, according to Suburban Chicagoland. "At a time of division in our country, we must support decency and the protection of freedom of religion in America.”

The Chicago Republican Party also said that the image is "disgusting."

Kemper is a Chicago native army veteran who served as an Infantry Mortarman (11C) in the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, KY. He is also currently pursuing a history degree with the plan of being a history professor. He is a moderate Republican running on “government accountability, lower taxes, lower crime, and increased business opportunity.” His opponent, Croke, supported the Governor’s progressive income tax proposal and the radical police reform fueling increases in crime in the state.

The Illinois House 12th District encompasses Streeterville, Gold Coast, and Lincoln Park in Chicago. If elected to represent the district, Kemper vowed to "strive to uphold the Constitution and tirelessly fight for the freedom of each individual citizen," according to Ballotpedia
