Tom DeVore, GOP nominee for attorney general, commented on the resignation of James Murphy, a 25-year veteran prosecutor, from the Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx’s office.
DeVore said incumbent Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Foxx and the people who are supposed to keep power in check, are part of the Democrat playbook. He applauded Murphy's exposition of "how tone-deaf this administration is."
“They don’t care," DeVore said following Murphy's resignation. "Kim Foxx – like Kwame Raoul – is an operative for a powerful political machine. They are not fair-minded, judicious prosecutors concerned with upholding the law. They are in place to protect power and help advance an agenda. Every day, people like James Murphy are waking up to this scam. I'm confident that in November the People of Illinois will oust these politicians and restore checks and balances in state and local government.”
Murphy resigned from Foxx’s office, saying, "I can no longer work for this administration," Chicago Sun-Times reported.
"I have zero confidence in their leadership ... I began to realize that the administration’s ‘Mission Vision and Values’ was just a PR stunt, just words on a page. Fairness. Accountability. Integrity. Respect. Collaboration. Those words should mean something … Yet time after time after time, this administration has shown that they don’t live the meaning of those words. Or they don’t care,” Murphy wrote on RealClearPolitics.
Many residents know that the state's attorney's office's poor record of locking up criminals is the root of Chicago's crime issues. Since Foxx decided to only prosecute shoplifting incidents that cost more than $1,000 in 2016, Chicago companies have experienced an increase in theft. As a result of that choice, shoplifting has escalated into a significant issue that has led to the permanent closure of some enterprises. Business owners in the area are concerned that allowing crime to get out of hand and not holding offenders accountable may inspire more serious crimes.
Foxx's office later released a statement regarding Murphy's departure and note.
"We recognize the rigors of this difficult work and the toll that it bears, yet over 1,100 employees show up every day to work on the front lines and behind the scenes in a testament of the resiliency and spirit of this office," Foxx's office said, ABC 7 News reported.
DeVore also slammed Raoul for turning a blind eye to possible Gov. J.B. Pritzker corruption, Prairie State Wire reported.
