Candidate for governor Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville) recently attended the Polish festival of Northern Illinois.
Bailey attended the Festival Polonaise – billed as “The Best Polish Festival in The Country” – at Arlington Park.
"Cindy and I had another amazing evening with the Polish Community of Northern Illinois," Bailey posted on Facebook. "Thank you for letting us attend your festival, and express our movement of hope and restoration with the crowd! There is growing momentum for our movement. People are ready for real change."
The festival, held Aug. 19 through 21, marked its fourth anniversary.
“Featuring all the wonderful things that Chicago’s huge Polish population celebrates. The festival is recognized for inviting the most popular artist and celebrities from the Polish music scene and around the world,” the Festival Polonaise website reads.
More than 20,000 people attended in 2017, more than 30,000 in 2018, and more than 40,000 in 2019.
Chicago currently includes over 210,000 people of Polish ancestry, which is around 8 percent of the city’s population according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Chicago has been a historic landing place for Poles going back to the 1830s. St. Stanislaus Kostka Church – the first Polish parish – was built in 1867 according to Culture.pl.
