Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot pulled the race card when discussing the city’s receipt of 60 illegal immigrants being bused in by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
Abbott is busing illegal immigrants, which have overrun his state due to lax federal border policies since President Joe Biden took office. Lightfoot provided her statements on the matter via press release.
"Today, the City of Chicago received confirmation that approximately 60 migrants were traveling to Chicago by way of Texas," Lightfoot said in the release. "Chicago is a welcoming city and as such has collaborated across various departments and agencies to ensure we greeted them with dignity and respect. We understand that many are fleeing violent, traumatic, or otherwise unstable environments. We will respond with essential services while these individuals navigate the next steps of their journey and our community partners have been working diligently to provide a safety net.”
Lightfoot noted this is no longer new to her city because 'Chicago welcomes hundreds of migrants every year providing much-needed assistance.'
"As a city, we are doing everything we can to ensure these immigrants and their families can receive shelter, food, and most importantly protection," she said. "Unfortunately, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is without any shame or humanity. But ever since he put these racist practices of expulsion in place, we have been working with our community partners to ready the city to receive these individuals.”
Chicago is ready to welcome illegal aliens according to the Mayor and 'will not turn its back on those who need the City's help the most.'
"We know that racism, discrimination, and human cruelty have played a pivotal role in how immigrants are received within our borders, and we are still working to recover from the previous presidential administration, which encouraged this behavior,'" Lightfoot added. "This is such an important moment for Chicago as a city has been a sanctuary for thousands of newcomers."
The first busload of illegal immigrants detained in Texas, according to Abbott, has arrived in Chicago. Abbott has started busload after busload of illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities like Chicago. Chicago is the perfect location for people breaking the law to enter the country since it is a sanctuary city and will not discriminate against illegal immigrants based on their status, according to the Texas Governor. He pointed out that the initiative was retaliation for President Joe Biden's "open borders" stance.
"President Biden's inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans- and Americans-at risk and is overwhelming our communities," Abbott said in a press release. “To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location. Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”
Chicago’s Morning Answer radio host Dan Proft has deemed Lightfoot a “race hustler” for her trigger finger reaction often framing issues within the context of race.
Lightfoot’s most recent claim of racism was met with condemnation from State Rep. LaShawn K. Ford (D-IL) who accused Lightfoot of colorism for suggesting someone with darker skin would scare voters, Chicago City Wire reported.
In Brooks County, the number of deaths of illegal immigrants has increased by 279%. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Department stated that 172,331 illegal aliens were captured during that time period in March 2021. There were 96,628 adult migrants who were single, up 40% from 68,992 in February.
