Republican candidate for Lt. Governor of Illinois Stephanie Trussell attended the West Side Day of Peace event.
Trussell looks fondly at her Westside experiences when she attended the West Side Day of Peace after rushing from Winfield to Douglas Park for the event.
"I moved away from the Westside many years ago, but it will always feel like home," Trussell shared. "I got to talk to people who remember when we had grocery stores and other businesses that were owned by neighbors."
Trussell also narrated her experiences meeting some of the Westside residents who asked if she belonged to the GOP.
“One gentleman and I had a pleasant conversation about issues in his neighborhood,” Trussell said. “He asked if I was a Republican. He was thrilled when I said yes. Turns out he just recently told a friend they needed to start a young Republican group! Darren Bailey for Governor and I will restore our great state! I love Chicago and can’t wait to work with the various communities who want real change not just lip service!”
Before being chosen by the Republican candidate for Illinois Governor Darren Bailey as his running mate, Trussell carved a successful career as a radio personality for WLS-AM 890.
Speaking about his selection of Trussell, Bailey said "She’s a hard-working conservative, a fighter, a mother, a grandmother, and Illinois' next lieutenant governor, Stephanie Trussell," according to East Central Reporter.
She gladly accepted Bailey's offer to be his running mate and expressed support for his causes.
“I love this country, and I continue to support the America First agenda that fights for working people, and I voted for President Trump in 2016 and campaigned and voted for him in 2020,” Trussell stated, according to Chicago Sun-Times. "As a mother of 5 kids and grandmother of 2, the future of Illinois is important to me, and I’m ready to focus on the real issues and fight with Darren Bailey to bring commonsense, conservative solutions to Springfield."
Bailey's campaign website noted that "Trussell is no stranger to overcoming adversity. In fact, she did it before she was even born. Her mother chose LIFE and Stephanie has been blazing trails ever since. Stephanie was born in Chicago and raised on the west side. At just 14 years old, Stephanie got her first job. By 15, she was working at the McDonalds in Maywood, and by 18 she had already earned the role of manager." The website also mentioned that Trussell "paid her own school tuition that year and learned early the value of hard work and earning an honest living. A natural-born leader, Stephanie’s career has spanned several management roles with Goodwill Industries, the Renaissance Hotel Chicago, and eventually the Mayor’s Office of Tourism in Chicago.”
