Republican attorney general candidate Tom DeVore is again slamming incumbent Democrat Kwame Raoul for his reponse to the rising crime rates in Cook County.
“The attorney general is the chief legal officer of the state, but Kwame Raoul is also Kim Foxx’s silent partner in non-prosecution,” DeVore posted on Twitter.
The number of shootings and other crimes have risen in Chicago and the surrounding area. Compared to the same time last year, burglaries, thefts, and motor thefts saw increases of 33%, 61%, and 45% respectively, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
In one of his recent Twitter posts, DeVore said that he "visited the scene of one of Chicago’s many crimes in downtown Chicago."
"It was a chilling experience, and these statistics should shock us to our core. But they seem to have numbed many as each Monday morning we just read the weekend’s body count in the Chicago Tribune right along with the sports scores," he said.
It isn’t the first time DeVore has publicly commented on Raoul's response to rising crime rates in Cook County.
“They don’t care," DeVore said in an earlier statement. "Kim Foxx – like Kwame Raoul – is an operative for a powerful political machine. They are not fair-minded, judicious prosecutors concerned with upholding the law."
Foxx dropped charges against 30% of the county's criminal defendants during her first three years as Cook County State's Attorney.
A Tulchin Research poll from earlier this year revealed that voters in an unnamed Chicago suburb switched from supporting Gov. J.B. Pritzker to Republican candidate Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Lousiville). The main issue raised by respondents was crime.
DeVore also accused Raoul of turning a blind eye to possible corruption, Prairie State Wire reported.
