City of Wheaton Fine & Cultural Arts Commission met Aug. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order

President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Those present: Mike Bock, Dee Hicks, Sarah Antas, Laurie Oberhelman. Dave Duve and Randy King.

II. Approval of agenda

Mike Bock moved and Randy King seconded the approval of the agenda.. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote.

III. Public Comments

N/C

IV. Approval of Minutes

V. Sarah Antas moved and Randy King seconded the approval of the minutes of August 2.

Motion approved by unanimous voice vote.

VI. New Business

Andy Worhol Display: Sarah attended the Chamber’s Art Business and Cultural meeting.

This committee is working on supporting the exhibition next summer. Laurie is checking with artist Peter Mars, a friend and pop artist who was inspired by Andy Warhol and friend of hers, to see if we could commission one of his works for public display, or auction. This is in initial stage and is open for discussion.

VII. Old Business

International Music Day : Scheduled for October 1 at the band shell. We have Park District confirmation of availability of venue and will start contacting choirs. Mike is in contact with John Guguay, City Manager, regarding legality of having performers on the street during this celebration. We will not commit to busters until we have the go ahead from the City. Randy and Laurie will be responsible for signing up buskers. Dave will contact Tony Payne from Wheaton College to check availability of gospel and children’s choirs, as well as the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn Choral. Randy will check availability of acappellago. We will meet in two weeks to follow up with choir’s commitment. Sarah and Laurie will send out blurb announcing International Music Day activities to Chamber, City, Arts of DuPage, Social Media and Daily Herald.

Dee Hicks moved and Sarah Mike Bock seconded that we adjourn at 6:46. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote.
