The Chicago State women's basketball team faced off against the Norfolk State Spartans and lost 53-86.

Janiah Newell finished with 14 points, while Ahlea Myers tallied up 12, and Taylor Norris posted up nine.

First Quarter - Norfolk State 25, Chicago State 17

• Norfolk State came out hot and executed a 7-0 run to stun the Cougars early on
• However, the Cougars were finally able to open up their scoring as Janiah Newell drove it in to reach a 2-7 score
• Nonetheless, the Spartans then executed another run, this one at 6-0 to increase their lead to 13-2
• From this point, the Cougars managed to outscore the Spartans 15-12 with buckets from Ahlea Myers, Josie Hill, Yzabelle Tevao, and Newell, however were unfortunately still trailing by eight

Second Quarter - Norfolk State 38, Chicago State 28

• The Spartans once again opened up the scoring and went on a 4-0 run to maintain their lead at 29-17
• However, with Jacia Cunningham's one made free throw and a jumper from Newell, the Cougars cut the run and now trailed by 9 at 20-29
• Unfortunately, the Spartans retaliated with a 7-0 run and once again increased their lead, this time to 36-20
• Taylor Norris and Janiah Newell then combined for the final eight points for the Cougars as they outscored Norfolk 8-2 to head into halftime at 28-38

Third Quarter - Norfolk State 71, Chicago State 35

• The Spartans began with a 5-0 run to continue in the lead at 43-28
• The Cougars were able to cut the run with a floater from Cunningham to reach a 30-43 score
• Nonetheless, the Spartans continued to score as they managed to outscore the Cougars 28-5 to finish off the quarter with a comfortable lead at 71-35

Fourth Quarter - Norfolk State 86, Chicago State 53

• The Cougars were able to open up the scoring with a tough driving layup from Newell to reach a 37-71 score
• This was followed by one made free throw out of two for Newell, Norris posting up three points of her own, and Cunningham hitting another pull up to gain some momentum for the Cougars with a 43-71 score
• Unfortunately, it was too late for the Cougars as Norfolk cruised to the win with a final score of 86-53

The Cougars will next face off against Olivet College on January 17th as they return home to the Jones Convocation Center.
