About the crime:
This alert gives notice to residents in the 7th District (Englewood) of recent vehicular hijacking incidents in the month of February. In each incident, the offenders approach the victims on the street, display a handgun and demand the victim's vehicle. The offenders then flee the scene with the victim's vehicle.
Incident times and locations:
- 1600 block of W. 68th St. on February 14, 2023 at 5:26 p.m.
- 7300 block of S. Aberdeen on February 14, 2023 at 6:47 p.m.
The offenders are described as three African American males, 13-20 years old, 5'3”- 5'10", 140-180 lbs., wearing black clothing and black ski masks.
What you can do:
- Always be aware of your surroundings.
- Report suspicious activity immediately.
- If you are confronted by an assailant, remain calm.
- Remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, acne, teeth, etc.).
- Never pursue a fleeing assailant; provide the information to the police.
- If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information.
- Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible.
- Residents can be reimbursed for the cost of their GPS tracking device by registering with the City.
