Despite the prevailing belief among scientists that COVID-19 originated naturally and spread to humans at a market in Wuhan, China, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence has joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in supporting the "lab leak theory," CNN reported in February.

This theory suggests that the virus was the result of research conducted in a Chinese laboratory. Chicago's Morning Answer radio host Dan Proft recently discussed the news about the COVID-19 lab leak theory.

"Does this mean there’s going to be accountability?" Proft asked during the March 9 show. "Does this mean Tony Fauci’s going to be taken away in cuffs? No, it doesn’t mean any of that. But it is important to bring people forward to continue to remind people to continue to paper the file with the truth as it seeps out little by little." 

The bulk of the intelligence community is still divided or leaning toward the notion that COVID-19 formed spontaneously, which scientific investigations have determined is the most likely, the CNN report said. But due to the lack of conclusive evidence, it has not been possible to completely dismiss the possibility of a lab leak.

"Based on my initial analysis of the data, I came to believe, and I still believe today, that it indicates that COVID-19 more likely was the result of an accidental lab leak than a result of a natural spillover event," Robert Redfield, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a recent Twitter post from The Vigilant Fox. "This conclusion is based primarily on the biology of the virus itself."

The lack of clarity about the origin of COVID-19, along with growing circumstantial evidence, has prompted some scientists, the Biden administration and the World Health Organization to suggest further investigation into the lab leak theory; CNN said. But the uncooperative stance of China has made that task more difficult.
